Goblin Priest
A goblin that mends its kin's wounds, turning a simple kill into a grinding, desperate fight.
The Goblin Priest is a specialized variant of the goblin that fills a spiritual and medical role within its tribe. Where ordinary goblins rely on crude blades and numbers, the Priest wields crude but effective healing magic, keeping wounded allies in the fight and making an entire goblin horde far more stubborn to defeat.
In the grim, no-nonsense world of Goblin Slayer, the Priest is not a boss or a legendary threat. It is, instead, a recurring tactical headache for low-rank adventurers who underestimate goblin society. The Goblin Slayer, with his obsessive, methodical hatred of every goblin type, treats the Priest with the same cold efficiency he brings to scouts and warriors: identify the role, neutralize the support, then clean up the rest.

Lore & Background
Goblin society in this world is not the mindless, solitary menace that many adventurers assume. Tribes are organized, with scouts, warriors, shamans, and priests each filling a niche. The Goblin Priest sits at the intersection of faith and medicine. It tends to wounded warriors, mends broken bones with a whispered incantation, and keeps the tribe's fighting strength intact through a skirmish that would otherwise collapse within minutes.
This single ability changes the math of a low-rank quest. An E-rank party that can easily dispatch three goblin scouts will find itself bleeding out while a Priest patches a fourth goblin back to its feet. The Goblin Slayer's entire philosophy—kill every goblin, leave no survivors, deny them the chance to regroup—stems directly from threats like this. A Priest left alive is a goblin tribe that keeps fighting.
The Priest's magic is crude by the standards of human clerics. It is not a grand, holy radiance. It is a goblin's understanding of mending, filtered through whatever fragment of divine or arcane knowledge trickles down to the lowest rung of the monster hierarchy. It works. That is what makes it dangerous.
In Their Own Story
The torchlight guttered in the damp cave mouth as the young adventurer pressed his back against the wet stone, gasping, his sword arm trembling. Three goblins lay dead in the mud. A fourth, missing an ear, was still on its feet, gnashing its teeth.
Behind it, hunched on a flat rock, the Priest chattered. Its small hands moved in slow, deliberate circles over the wounded goblin's torn flank, and the bleeding slowed. The torn skin knit, ugly and uneven, but it held. The goblin warrior hauled itself upright, shrieking, and charged.
The adventurer fumbled for a potion. His fingers slipped. The vial shattered on the stone, spilling useless.
Somewhere in the dark beyond the cave, a second Priest was already chanting for the next wave.
Reader's Guide
The Goblin Priest is a support-role monster that dramatically raises the difficulty of any goblin encounter. In a tribe of six or more, expect at least one Priest, and in larger hordes, two or three. Its primary danger is not its own attack—its offensive magic is weak by any standard—but its healing. A Priest can close a wound that should have dropped a goblin warrior, effectively giving the horde a second wind mid-fight.
Lair habits: Priests tend to stay near the center of the goblin camp or cave, shielded by warriors and scouts. They are rarely the first to engage. They will flee if the front line breaks, but only if they can drag their wounded with them.
What makes them a specific danger: they turn a straightforward kill-order into a priority-target problem. If you do not identify and eliminate the Priest early, the goblins keep standing. The Goblin Slayer's approach is blunt: spot the one with the vestments, the one standing behind the line, the one with its hands raised over a wounded ally. Kill it first. Then the rest are just goblins again.
For low-rank parties, a single Priest can be the difference between a successful quest and a party wipe. For the Goblin Slayer, it is simply another goblin to cross off the list.
Did You Know?
- The Goblin Priest's healing ability is what makes goblin groups a disproportionate threat to E-rank and D-rank adventurers, turning a numerically simple fight into a prolonged, attritional one.
- The Goblin Slayer's overarching strategy of denying goblins any chance to regroup or recover is a direct tactical response to support roles like the Priest.
- Goblin society in the series is portrayed as having a functional hierarchy and division of labor, with the Priest being one of several specialized roles rather than a unique boss-type.
- The Priest's magic is depicted as crude and limited compared to human clerical magic, emphasizing that even low-tier monsters can access fragments of divine or arcane power.
