Dwarf

She doesn't swing the sword—she makes sure the sword is worth swinging.

The Dwarf is a stalwart female dwarf and master blacksmith who serves as the weaponsmith and arms-crafter of the Goblin Slayer's regular adventuring party. Where the other members fight, she ensures they fight with the right tools—forging blades, reinforcing armor, and repairing gear between campaigns with a focus that borders on obsession.

She is one of the five core companions who travel alongside the Goblin Slayer, and her presence turns the party from a ragged group of specialists into a properly equipped unit. Her blunt, no-nonsense manner and deep pride in her craft make her a grounding, earthy counterweight to the party's more emotional or erratic members.

Lore & Background

In a world where goblin blades can split a knight's breastplate and where a poorly tempered edge can cost a life in the first exchange, the Dwarf fills a role that is as vital as any sword-arm. She works in a forge—whether a permanent workshop in a town or a field setup beside the party's camp—striking metal until it sings. Her weapons are not ornate; they are built to hold, to cut, and to survive the mud and blood of a goblin den. A blade she forges is a blade she stands behind, and she will rework a piece endlessly rather than let a flawed edge leave her hands.

Her personality is as compact and dense as her stature. She speaks plainly, tolerates little nonsense, and expresses care through action rather than words. If a party member's armor is dented, she says nothing—she simply melts it down and reforges it by morning. This quiet, practical devotion is her love language, and it has earned her a place of deep trust within the group. She chafes at sentimentality and theatrical heroics, which puts her at odds with more flamboyant adventurers, but she respects competence above all.

Within the broader party dynamic, the Dwarf provides the material backbone. The Goblin Slayer plans the kill; the Priestess mends the wounds; the Lizard Woman and Elf Archer cover the flanks; and the Dwarf ensures that every weapon in their hands is the best version of itself. Without her, the party is a group of fighters. With her, they are a unit.

In Their Own Story

The forge door groaned open at dusk, and the Dwarf did not look up from the anvil. The blade before her was a short sword—simple, honest steel—pulsing with the last orange glow of the quench. She had been at it since before dawn, reworking the edge three times because the second temper had left a faint softness near the tip that her thumb could feel but no one else would notice until the moment it mattered. A goblin's head would be there. The softness would be there. One of them would not survive the other.

She struck again. The hammer rang out, sharp and final, and the blade settled into its true shape. She set it in the cooling rack, wiped her soot-blackened hands on her apron, and finally looked up. The Goblin Slayer stood in the doorway, mud to the knees, a goblin ear still tucked behind his ear like a bookmark.

"You're late," she said.

"The den was deeper than expected."

She nodded, already pulling the next billet of steel from the rack. "Then we work through the night. The Priestess's mace is losing weight at the head."

He said nothing. He sat down on the anvil's edge, set the goblin ear on the workbench, and watched her work. Outside, the wind pushed rain against the forge walls. Inside, the hammer sang.

Reader's Guide

Role in the party: The Dwarf is the logistical and material backbone of the Goblin Slayer's group. As a blacksmith, her class is not a combatant in the traditional sense—she is the one who makes combat viable. Her defining trait is an uncompromising standard of craftsmanship; a weapon leaves her forge only when it is right, full stop. She contrasts sharply with the Goblin Slayer's grim, single-minded obsession with killing goblins. Where he is all purpose and no comfort, she is all function and no frills. Where he would simply use what he has, she insists on what he needs. Her bluntness and dry humor provide a rare, grounded human (well, dwarven) warmth in a party otherwise defined by trauma and trauma-adjacent coping. For players or readers tracking her: she is the reason the party's equipment never becomes a plot weakness, and her quiet pride is one of the few things in the series that feels genuinely, unironically joyful.
